Annual, special events are produced by SafePlace in recognition of Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month (April) and Domestic Violence Awareness Month (October). These events bring supporters together to learn more about the issues, pay tribute to survivors, celebrate the success of the organization and survivors and raise much needed funds to build on these successes.

A Day to Shine
April – Supporting Expect Respect, a program of SafePlace

A Day to Shine was founded in 2008 to bring awareness of the issue of dating abuse in our community. In 2013, Expect Respect, a Program of SafePlace, was chosen as a beneficiary of the event. Members of GETMAD: Girls Energized To Make A Difference star as models in the event’s fashion show, demonstrating their commitment to increase awareness about dating abuse among their peers.

Celebration
October

For seven years SafePlace’s Celebration Luncheon has brought the community together to celebrate the lives of those who have survived sexual and domestic violence, and to learn more about hope, survival, and how we can all make a difference. Celebration is SafePlace’s largest fundraising event of the year, and all funds raised support the organization’s life-saving programs and services.

Illuminate Austin Walk for Safe Families
February 22, 2014

Illuminate Austin is a family- and pet-friendly evening walk event at Mueller Lake Park & Hangar. We will walk together on a path lined with beautiful luminarias as we celebrate all those who have broken the cycle of violence in their own lives, and mourn the lives that have been lost.

This is an opportunity for our entire community to come out in a sign of visible support for the survivors of sexual and domestic violence! Please join us!

Community Education Events

SafePlace hosts events and campaigns the entire community can participate in to learn more, show their support of the agency, build community for survivors or encourage others to join the SafePlace mission. By exploring the impact of sexual and domestic violence, opening the dialogue and bringing light to the myths we can come together as a community to end this violence. For more information on Community Education Events, please contact, Amy Allen, Community Organizer at 512-356-1690.

Denim Day
Each April, in observance of  Sexual Assault Awareness & Prevention Month, SafePlace asks Austin-area businesses, organizations and individuals to take the pledge and wear Denim. SafePlace brought the call to action to Austin in 2008 and since then thousands of Austin area employees have joined others across the world in wearing Denim on this day.

Celebrating the Survivor Spirit
This is an evening dedicated to the resiliency of survivors of sexual violence, offering a space for survivors and their allies to raise voices, share visions and celebrate healing. Celebrating the Survivor Spirit (CSS) provides survivors and their allies an opportunity to come forward, meet and hear from each other and begin forming a community of survivors in the healing process.
